April Goals

I'm leaving the house without bringing a jacket for the first time in forever, so it's a victory for spring today! The picture in this post is from April 2014, when I was studying abroad in London and interning in Parliament. (For reference, last month's picture was from March 2016 during peak bloom of the DC cherry blossoms.)

Here is what I hoped to accomplish in March 2018:

1. Read two books
I read four books in the month of March! Always and Forever, Lara Jean, A Wrinkle in Time, The Hate U Give, and The Knockoff. I'm already halfway to my 2018 goal of 20 books, and we're only 3 months into the year.

2. Visit two independent stores in the Triangle
Unforunately — nope! It's a little crazy to me how tough I found it to squeeze this one in. I'm trying again next month to get to two independent stores, whether they're book stores, coffee shops, boutiques, or something else entirely.

3. Prepare and file taxes
I prepared my taxes, gave them to my dad, and he dropped them off with his accountant — so I'm considering this done on my part. I've done it on my own the 2 years prior to this, but TurboTax was causing me all kinds of grief this year and saying I owed thousands of dollars (which can't possibly be true), so I took the path of less resistance. Fingers crossed for a refund (or just not owing too much more).

4. Reorganize and style bookshelves in my bedroom
I'm crossing this one off even though it's not technically 100% finished. But everything is reorganized, and everything is styled with the exception of printing two photographs. The frames are there, currently showcasing an adorable stock toddler and his adorable stock pug. They will be replaced soon and this will be actually, technically accomplished.

5. Go on one podcast walk per week
Again, nope! Not even close. I went on a podcast walk to take a break from my desk/screen/work only once this month. I need to try to prioritize this, because I think it will make me feel more productive overall. And it will be especially lovely as the weather gets nicer!

6. Use my new MoviePass
I went to go see A Wrinkle in Time using my new MoviePass. I didn't know what I was doing and sounded like a total noob when I was picking up my ticket, but I successfully got my ticket and saw the movie (it was not stellar but definitely charming). It was so easy (and the first time I've ever been to a movie by myself!), so now that I've done it once I will certainly be repeating often.

And here are the new goals for April:

1. Read three books — including one physical book (not on Kindle!)
2. Visit two independent stores in the Triangle
3. Go on one podcast walk per week
4. Clean my car and get the oil changed
5. Deep clean my bathroom
6. Continue journaling at least once a week (a habit I added during Lent)
7. Make an appointment with the eye doctor
8. Accomplish a new goal on my 101 things in 1001 days list
