Of Note — October 12
Big day today! Princess Eugenie of York married her long-time boyfriend Jack Brooksbank this morning — and you know I was up at 5am to watch the nuptials — and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill celebrates is 225th (!!!) anniversary! The birthplace of public higher education in American (and that’s a fact, don’t @ me, W&M and UGA) celebrated the day with a ceremony in Memorial Hall and a party in the Pit. My day was long and bonkers, but one that left me feeling very fulfilled. This week my brother also had a birthday, and it is finally starting to feel like fall.
Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng is on the docket! I’ve been so busy that I haven’t had much chance to read it (I think I’m still somewhere in the first chapter), but it’s been well-reviewed so I’m looking forward to actually diving in.
I saw A Star is Born on Sunday night with my brother, sister, and mom. It is so captivating. In the grand scheme of things it’s probably a 3.5/5 star movie (it definitely drags in the second half, and it doesn’t seem to know how it feels about its characters and authenticity), but I cannot get the songs out of my head and the chemistry between Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper was off the charts. It’s his directorial debut, and I think he did a bang-up job. I’d definitely recommend seeing it.
My coworker gifted me a Dropbox folder of every Harry Potter audiobook, and it has been the perfect companion to every work day and drive. I’m not actually listening to them in order (I’m planning on rereading them soon so wanted some space between them), but I’m kind of jumping around and listening to different chapters in different books every day. It’s disjointed but fun. I can’t wait to start reading again.
Birthday cakes! A different coworker baked a cake from scratch for us to photograph and use for the University’s 225th birthday. We took the photos on Monday morning and ate the cake mere moments later (nothing like dessert for breakfast, am I right?). Simon’s birthday cake was chocolate with vanilla frosting and Swedish fish. It was a Kevin Burke original (thanks Dad) and so dang tasty.
FALL TEMPERATURES, fall sunrises, fall sunsets, Princess Eugenie’s husband wearing his glasses so he could see her walk down the aisle then taking them off for the ceremony, painting with watercolors, meetings with beautiful views, being back at Orangetheory, my new blue mirrored sunglasses, Weleda skin food.
