Of Note — June 1
Just a lovely week! I spent the long weekend relaxing and catching up with friends and have had a productive work week before hopping on a plane to Chicago this afternoon. My sister and I are staying with my friend Mary to go to the Taylor Swift concert. I haven't been to Chicago in literally six months, so I'm really excited to go back. One of the best parts of this week was a surprise visit with some of my best friends. I had dinner planned with Kyle and Caroline, who was coming into town, but Claire coordinated with Kyle to surprise us too! Such a special treat to see them.
Finished The Hating Game! It was witty and adorable, a little predictable but well-executed. I have now read 17 books in 2018, and my goal for this whole year was 20. I'm really excited about that. With school and campaign and everything, it's been a long time since I've read this much just for the joy of reading.
I have finally started watching Handmaid's Tale season 2. I wanted to let the episodes stock pile a little so I could binge them instead of watching week-to-week, but I blinked and the season was almost over. Time to get to work! It's terrifying and brilliantly done. And while I really hate Elisabeth Moss's casting for/reaping the rewards of this role, I do overall think it's incredible.
I'm seeing Taylor Swift TOMORROW (!!!) so listening to her non-stop! It's my third Taylor Swift concert (I also went to the Red tour and 1989 tour; I should have gone to Speak Now as well but she was sick and rescheduled to a day I couldn't go). I alternate between my "all Taylor" and my "sad Taylor" playlists for when I like to revel in a bit of melancholy.
I went to two new restaurants in Durham on Saturday! One for dinner and one for dessert. Both were excellent. Taberna Tapas had great cocktails and delicious Spanish food. Our paella, roasted Brussels sprouts, and clams & chorizo were particularly tasty. We were still a little hungry by the end of dinner so we walked over to Jack Tar and The Colonel’s Daughter — basically a millennial's dream diner. I got the cake special, which had elderflower and blackberries in it, and I wish I had another slice right now.
Giant skillet cookies, ice cream cones, a good sore from rock climbing, epsom salt baths, surprise visits from friends, Liverpool Football Club, grilling steak on my own, two long weekends in a row.
