Of Note — June 15
It's been a week of quality time with friends and soccer and naps and great food. I hate how hot summers are in North Carolina, but I love the easy days and relaxed spirit. The weather can go, but that mood can stay forever.
My friend Mary loaned me a book called My Oxford Year, the plot of which is basically my dream? The protagonist goes to Oxford to study for a year and at the same time gets offered her dream job on a presidential campaign. She tries to do both at the same time, and I feel extremely confident she's going to fall in love with the "posh prick" she crashed into in the fish and chips shop. Can't wait to find out!
WORLD CUP, BABY! A podcast that I listened to described it as the "Christmas of soccer" — except if Christmas lasted an entire month instead of one day. I'm pulling for England (which I usually do) and Egypt (who are highly unlikely to even advance from their group, but my angel Mo Salah plays for them).
I taught a "Best of Broadway" spin class on Wednesday, so I've had an extremely weird mashup of a lot of different songs stuck in my head for much of the week. Even ones I listened to and didn't end up using in the class! It was a super fun playlist, with lots of traditional Broadway songs (Rent, Hairspray, Spring Awakening) and a few weird and fun things thrown in (a Dear Evan Hansen remix and a trap version of Circle of Life — because why not).
Last weekend I made funfetti cupcakes and iced half with marshmallow vanilla frosting and half with strawberry frosting. I've basically been eating one per day since then, and it's been so tasty. I love funfetti so much.
Funfetti, Holly Springs Salamanders, Savannah Bananas, Parkland students singing at the Tony's, Bachelorette Mondays with friends, s'mores in a jar, summer skies after it rains, Erin and Corey's new apartment, Pizzeria Toro, quiet Sunday nights in downtown Durham, raspberry gelato, Queen Elizabeth wearing lime.
