Of Note — June 29
This has been a really awesome week, and somehow I only took like 3 pictures the entire time. A couple of the highlights — on Monday night, my church choir sang the national anthem at the Durham Bulls game. I was nervous, but it was so fun and an awesome culmination to this "semester" of choir; it also turned out to be a gorgeous night for a baseball game. On Tuesday night, we celebrated Vaughn's birthday at Ponysaurus. On Thursday, I went with her to a couple of wedding venues in Durham (that were gorgeous). And at my 6am Orangetheory class this morning, it was endurance day. That meant a 14 minute block on the treadmill, and I jogged THE ENTIRE THING! Such a win to head into a fun weekend and week ahead.
Most of the books I read on my Kindle come from the Durham County Public Library. I love this perk of having a library card and an e-reader, but it means there can be long waits for popular books. I've been on the waiting list for Crazy Rich Asians since the middle of April, and this week it finally checked out to my Kindle. I'm also next on the waiting list for its sequel, China Rich Girlfriend, so I've got to get moving on the first. I'm excited and, based on the trailer for the movie, I think I'm going to love it.
It took me three weeks to watch the first episode of this season of Handmaid’s Tale, and about three days to watch the 8 episodes after that. It’s such incredible story telling, and it echoes with familiarity (even more so than last season) — particularly with families being separated at the border. Apparently episode 10 is a real doozy, so can’t wait to have my heart broken by that, then watch 11 and finish the season in real time.
I added two new podcasts to my World Cup rotation (I am a maniac, I'm well aware). ESPN FC is good but not great, because they produce it as a TV show and then just release it as a podcast, so you miss the visuals sometimes. World Cup Daily from the BBC is fun, because they've got a special focus on England (interviews with players and Gareth and more). They interviewed one of the journalist's seven-year-old son who is loving is first World Cup, and it was adorable.
I wrote my "currently loving" section before writing this one, and wow... I ate a lot of good food this week. Dinner from Moe's before a movie, a lovely lunch with Spencer since she's on summer vacation (Lucha's General Tso's is the best), and a great frozen food find at TJ's. It was all so tasty, and I'm also excited to get back into meal planning soon and really cooking up a storm.
Planning a trip alone, planning a trip with friends, a visit from Claire, celebrating birthdays, upgrading my Orangetheory membership, Moe's queso, Trader Joe's taquitos, General Tso's chicken at Lucha Tigre, round of 16 at the World Cup starting tomorrow.
