Of Note — July 13
This week has been a fun and weird week. My team and two others are moving into a new office, so I've been working from home all week while almost 50 peoples' monitors, cubicles, and desks are being taken apart, moved down the street, and rebuilt. We'll be in our new office space starting on Monday! The timing for the week at home has been perfect, as it's let me watch the World Cup semifinals in peace. I'm so sad for the England team, but they had an incredible run. One day football will come home, but unfortunately that day is not today.
Remember last week when I said it was so weird that I hadn't finished a book in a few weeks? Yeah, scratch that. I finished THREE books this past week! My Oxford Year, Crazy Rich Asians, and The Light We Lost. I was a little underwhelmed by the endings of both My Oxford Year and Crazy Rich Asians, but I'm a little more forgiving of the latter because it's part of a trilogy so there's more to come. The Light We Lost was written in second person, with one of the characters tell her life and love story to another. I thought that would annoy me, but instead I found it unique and refreshing. The story was relatable and heartbreaking, a new take on the question of wild and crazy vs. stable and dependable love (Aiden vs. Big, if you will). I loved it and would 100% recommend.
I finally finished season 2 of Handmaid's Tale. Meh? There were some real highlights in the last few episodes (Bradley Whitford! OPRAH!), but I was annoyed by how the last episode ended, and I was starting to get annoyed by some of the visual aspects (do we really need that many lens flares? Really?). Something else that I finally watched this week that was decidedly not "meh" was Coco. I'm so tardy to the party, but I LOVED this movie. The story, the music, the colors were all sensational. Pixar never disappoints (nobody mention Cars 2).
I went to the Lake Street Dive concert with my pals last night at the North Carolina Museum of Art. I don't know all of their music super well, but Haley loves them so I've started to listen to them since living with her. It's such fun music that I knew I'd have a great time even without knowing every word to every song — and I was right! They were phenomenal live, and we had such a blast!
I made fish tacos to eat this week. I seasoned and cooked tilapia and put them on corn tortillas with a little cilantro rice, cheese, pico de gallo, and sour cream. They were so easy to pull together and so tasty; I'll have to add them into a regular rotation.
Teaching my first double, old fashioneds, buffalo chicken egg rolls (hello delicious!), eastern North Carolina barbeque, the England game at the London Bridge Pub, Wimbledon, my Kindle, aloe.
