Of Note — July 27
This is like the most intense "Of Note" that has ever existed. Last Friday I had taken exactly 0 pictures in a week and was really busy celebrating my roommate's birthday, so I decided to skip an update. As of this Friday, I have celebrated Haley's birthday for 2 days straight, gone to Charlotte to see Liverpool play in person, and flown to San Diego to attend my first work conference and kick off my first solo trip. You know...just a few things!
I finished China Rich Girlfriend on the plane ride to San Diego, which I loved. I'm very into this trilogy, and can't wait to read the third (even though I already read the synopsis on Wikipedia so I know what will happen...oops!). I brought four massive books with me to San Diego — all of which are huge, three of which are hardback. It was for sure a mistake, but that's okay. Citizen of the World is still interesting (and will take me forever to finish); I just dove into Female Persuasion and am loving the first 2 chapters; and I have yet to start Robin or Children of Blood and Bone.
All the soccer! Several top European clubs are touring in the United States right now as a part of the International Champions Cup. The day it was announced that Liverpool was coming even remotely close to us (Charlotte is 2ish hours from Durham), we made a plan to go. Seeing them in person was amazing. Singing "You'll Never Walk Alone" with 55,000 of my closest friends was extremely emotional. I cried multiple times (obviously). They didn't win, but it was a really fun game still. And then there was also a game in San Diego while I've been here for work! One of my UNC coworkers was at the conference and is a huge Tottenham Hotspur fan, so I went to their match with him and another conference attendee (who is, coincidentally, a Liverpool fan). Such a blast!
I was cheated by you, and I think you know when... MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN! I saw the movie on International Self Care Day this past Tuesday, and it was the perfect form of self care. Objectively, the movie was kind of terrible. But it was also the best. You just throw yourself into the story and fall in love. I cried probably 9 different times, and I haven't stopped listening to the soundtracks of the two movies since.
Tacos, taquitos, quesadillas — aka all of the Mexican food I can get my hands on. The best so far has been The Taco Stand, which was recommended by my favorite blogger, C'est Christine, who lives in San Diego. I had the most fantastic al pastor quesadilla. My few solo days is almost entirely based off of recommendations that came from her "Guide to the Perfect Weekend in San Diego."
Instagram-able walls, succulents everywhere, a conference that I found very interesting, seeing Jürgen Klopp (and every other Red) in person, Andy Garcia, having my toe nails painted.
