Of Note — July 6
I cannot tell you how many times during the Fourth of July I thought it was Saturday instead of Wednesday. I've been off all week, but that's okay — it's been such a fun week, with lots of fun time with friends! My favorite thing this week was floating on Haw River on the 4th. We took tubes out onto the river and floated for a few hours, crunching on snacks and telling stories and playing Would You Rather. It was gorgeous and so relaxing; I did leave with a massive sunburn though so that's been less than ideal.
My least favorite thing this week is my friend Kyle moving. She is heading to Austin to go to grad school at UT. I'm proud, she's so inspiring, all that jazz — but mostly I'm just going to miss her a crazy amount. She's my go-to gal for everything, and I'm not sure what I'm goign to do without her.
I haven't finished a book in a few weeks, which is a weirdly long amount of time for me this year. Im still working on Crazy Rich Asians (I have less time than I thought before it disappears from my Kindle; I need to get moving), My Oxford Year, and Citizen of the World.
Look, I could make something up and say I've watched a show and loved it, et cetera et cetera. But in the past week, if I haven't been at work, I've been hanging out at the pool with friends or watching World Cup (or both at the same time!). I'll tune into something else once football has come home (go Lions!).
Just all the World Cup pods, all the time. I haven't taught a spin class this week, so I haven't even listened to music to make a new playlist. I'm loving ESPN FC more than I was before (I had described it as "good but not great" last week). As I've listened more, I'm more familiar with the people on it, and their jokes and ribbing of each other is so much fun. Same with the World Cup Daily pod.
I had dinner on the Fourth of July at my friends' parents house, and it was a delicious spread. Brats, which I always forget about until someone — this time Brooke — makes them for me, a delicious patriotic-cake made by Hope, and buffalo chicken dip. Linda makes THE BEST buffalo chicken dip that I have loved for years. I got into a spot of car trouble on the way to their house and had to pull over on the side of the highway for the first time, so it really calmed me down and gave me a lot of joy to see it across the kitchen once I arrived.
ENGLAND WINNING A WORLD CUP PENALTY SHOOTOUT, Haw River, gold glitter floats, Moe's queso, discovering aloe I'd left in the fridge, running into college pals out in Durham, working from home.
