Of Note — August 10
I turned 25 years old yesterday!! I hate numbers that are divisible by 5 (don’t ask) and a lot of my friends are out of town, so this isn’t exactly a birthday I was looking forward to. But I have been so spoiled so far, and I feel very loved and lucky to celebrate another rotation around the sun.
I finally finished The Female Persuasion , which was good but not great. I think Meg Wolitizer built an incredible world and created compelling characters, but the plot was a little lacking and the end of the book felt a rushed. It felt like it wanted to build to a big statement — but it didn’t. I just wanted it to be more than it was.
I am all in on my Friends and Game of Thrones rewatches I’ve watched twenty and nine episodes of each show, respectively, in the past week. I’m a monster, but it’s fine. I’m having a fantastic time.
This weekend is the opening weekend of the Premier League — finally. So I’ve been taking a quick break from the Mamma Mia soundtrack in order to catch up on a bunch of podcasts’ Premier League preview episodes. This is the first year I’m ever playing fantasy soccer, so I’m paying more attention to the rest of the league than ever before. I’m definitely disadvantaged to the rest of the dudes I’m playing with, but I’m going to give it the old college try.
I have already had so many great birthday meals! Wednesday it was lunch at Carburritos; yesterday I had a two-hour lunch at Chili’s with coworkers and a delicious dinner at Shiki with friends. The food has been great and the company has been even better. I am a very special, very loved birthday girl.
Confetti, flowers, my birthday, sushi dinners with friends, at-home Milk Bar cakes, cards, Facetimes with family, Letterfolk board, organizing my bookshelf, season 6 finale of Friends, seeing Mamma Mia again, Chili’s.
