Of Note — March 1
This week has felt like I’ve been in a holding pattern just waiting to go on vacation. We leave tomorrow morning (at 6:45…yikes) to go skiing in Canada! It’s our first family vacation (not including the holidays) in more than four years, and I cannot wait. We’re skiing and Whistler and also spending a little time in Seattle and Vancouver, and I’ve got about a million things I want to do in each of those places, plus checking off number two from my list — take a trip with my family.
Charlotte Walsh Likes to Win is a novel by Jo Piazza, who co-wrote a couple of books that I really enjoyed last year (The Knockoff and Fitness Junkie). It’s about a Silicon Valley exec who’s decided to give up her corporate life to move back to her hometown in rural Pennsylvania and run for Senate. I read somewhere that it’s the only novel out there about a woman running for statewide office, which I find a little hard to believe and at the same time 100% possible. It’s an excellent light read, and I’d definitely recommend! (And, I saw last night that they’re in talks to turn it into a limited series on Amazon starring my girl Julia Roberts as Charlotte. So exciting!!)
You might (correctly) imagine that the Oscars ended on a down note for me after Green Book won best picture. They truly should have ended the broadcast after Olivia Coleman’s utterly delightful acceptance speech for Best Actress. So we won’t dwell on that, and instead we’ll talk about the Jeopardy! Team Tournament of Champions! Y’all — it’s incredible. For the first time every, Jep is being played as a team sport, with 3 people per team and each member playing one round of the game. When Haley and I were watching an episode last week, we were so hype we were YELLING (and saying “Our neighbors will be so confused why we’re shouting when there’s not a Carolina game on!”). It’s been so fun, and I cannot wait to see who takes the crown tonight.
Oh heyyyy new songs from Carly Rae Jepsen and Jonas Brothers! What a week in pop music! I wasn’t a huge JoBros fan as a teen (I kid you not, instead of Nick, Joe, or Kevin my binder covers were dominated by photos of Barack Obama when I as 14), but this new song is a bop and the video is even better. It’s completely an homage to The Favourite (from the bunnies to filming at the same estate home), and I’m obsessed.
Honestly, nothing that special this week. It’s probably my last week of Freshly, just because it’s my last week of having a discount, and it’s too expensive for me to keep doing regularly. So I’m enjoying it while it lasts and am on the hunt for good (healthy, easy) recipes to cook after I’m back from vacation.
A new purse that I’ve been coveting for years, a new camera lens to fix one that’s broken, planning vacation, the announcement of a sequel being written to The Royal We, lemon pepper waffle fries, freshly laundered sheets, pinot noir with coworkers, late night Orangetheory, my new ski jacket (I picked the white one!).
