Of Note — March 15
Being back from vacation is the wooooooooorst. It’s been tough getting back on the correct time zone (certainly not helped by the fact that I can’t stop watching Game of Thrones episodes and/or theory videos on YouTube) and a struggle getting back into the swing of things at work. Definitely looking forward to the weekend.
I am finally reading Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. Several of my best friends are utterly obsessed with this series and have been begging me to read it for years. It popped onto my Kindle on Monday, and let me tell you my pals are beyond thrilled that I’m entering the world. And it’s really, really good. The YA fantasy series follows the story of Celaena Sardothien, a teenage assassin who, having been caught and sent to be a slave in the mines, is chosen by the crown prince to enter a competition to become the king’s champion (AKA his personal assassin). You’ve got it all — corrupt king, misunderstood boy prince, unknown dark forces, magic, love triangles. I’ll finish it tonight for sure and can’t wait to get book #2 (of seven…yikes).
You know what’s pretty confusing? Watching the series Game of Thrones while you’re reading the book series Throne of Glass. So many thrones, so much magic thought to be forgotten from the world (spoiler alert — it never is). I’m rewatching the series, relistening to a recap podcast, and wasting so much time on YouTube watching theory videos. If you’ve got a spare hour and are also GOT-obsessed, check out the Binge Mode video breaking down the season 8 trailer. And I’m not kidding about the “hour” part — Mallory and Jason, hosts of Binge Mode (the podcast I’m relistening to), literally spend 61 minutes breaking down a 2 minute trailer. It’s amazing — watch here.
Aside from Binge Mode (heavily on rotation), I’ve listened this week to the Dear Evan Hansen soundtrack quite a lot. It was the show we saw at DPAC last night and WOW it was amazing. I haven’t seen anything as modern as it before, so it was very cool to see how they integrated technology in the show.
No sweets, soda, or french fries — happy Lent 2k19.
Vancouver, ramen, not being saddled with a middle seat on a cross country flight, wireless headphones, my iPad, being back at Orangetheory, tulips, beating Bayern away in the Champions League, naps.
