Of Note — April 19
Looking down the barrel of a VERY busy but very exciting weekend. It’s Holy Week (the week before and of Easter), which means it’s a little bonkers for us choir members! We have rehearsal on Wednesday, Maundy Thursday service on Thursday (duh), Good Friday on Friday, Easter Vigil on Saturday night, and two services on Easter Sunday. BUSY! I will be missing the Easter Vigil because I’m going to my friends’ wedding on Saturday night! We’ve got their welcome party on Friday and wedding on Saturday and lots of fun getting-ready activities in between. I will be exhausted on Sunday, but it will be so worth it.
The Kindle is officially on airplane mode! I’ve got to make my way through Crown of Midnight and Heir of Fire (books number 2 and 3 in the Throne of Glass series) because their waits at the library are VERY long, and I don’t want to get back on the list. I have book club next week for One Day In December, which I’m only like 20% of the way through, and with how busy this weekend is we’ll see if I make any progress on it. C’est la vie! I’ve only got very good reasons to be busy this week!!
GAME OF THRONES IS BACK, BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved the first episode, but I’ve probably yammered on enough about the show. So the other thing I’ve been watching this week — my love of Jeopardy! is very well known. When Alex Trebek announced that he has cancer, no fewer than half a dozen people sent me the story or texted me to check in and make sure I was okay. So I have been LIVING for James Holzhauer’s winning streak. He’s a sports gambler who has been crushing it — so smart, so quick on the buzzer, and absolutely willing to go all in. He’s super close to hitting a million dollars (if he keeps winning, it’ll happen in the next few games). Ken Jennings is the winningest Jeopardy! contestant of all time, and he won $2.5 million over the course of 74 games. If James makes it to 74 games…I can’t even imagine how much money he’ll win.
This is technically listening + watching, but since I needed to wax poetic about Jep in the watching section, I’ll wax poetic about Beyoncé here. If you haven’t seen her Homecoming documentary/concert film on Netflix or listened to the concert album on Spotify — please close this browser. Go away from this site. (Go on, GET!) Go listen. Go watch. It is incredible. What a gift to all of us to be able to see this masterpiece. And great news — Lemonade is finally comping to Spotify!! Next Tuesday (the three year anniversary of the visual album being released, which…HOW?!?). Can’t wait to include it on spin playlists way more often!!
My favorite salads are all back at Trader Joe’s! So I guess I unfortunately just love all the spring/summer seasonal ones. When they disappear they’re not gone forever, just a few (very dark, very sad, very somber) months. I’m loving nomming on all the fresh veggies!
Champions League MAYHEM, Ottawa bagels, walks along the Rideau Canal, Maundy Thursday foot washing, Bartok and Rasputin (who are robbed of their roles in Anastasia the musical), Easter hymns, Trader Joe’s, airpods, my Whistler sweatshirt.
