Of Note — April 26
What a week it’s been! So much love, so much joy, so much fun, so little sleep. I’m very excited for a low-key weekend — trying out a new hot yoga class and seeing the Avengers. And not much else! It’ll be great.
I finished One Day in December! On Monday after work I was still just 25% of the way through the book, and on Tuesday for book club…I’d finished. I am a monster. It was so silly but honestly so charming at the same time. I was crying a bunch and couldn’t quite figure out why? I loved and hated all of the characters, and it was super interesting to see how all kinds of relationships (romantic, friendships, parent/child) shift and change over the years. It’s just begging to be adapted into a movie, and I will be seeing it when Reese Witherspoon (because of course she will produce it) does it.
Haley and I caught The Lion King on tv this week. It’s been a little over a year since I last watched it, and I just love that movie so much (I’m confident it has something to do with being a Leo). I cannot WAIT for the new movie. I want the casting director to win literally every single award, because whenever I imagine John Oliver saying, “It’s Mr. Banana Beak to you, fuzzy!!!” — I just want to die from happiness. While I was watching the movie I did go a little wild and pop onto the Target app…bought a Lion King sweatshirt, Lion King socks, and Pixar socks. Yikes. But also, I’m thrilled. 😁
I’m a few days overdue on my library book (is that the title of my memoir?), but it’s worth it. I have Born a Crime by Trevor Noah checked out on audiobook, and it’s wonderful. I’ve got about a disc and a half left (out of seven). I thought it would be more of a life memoir, but it’s mostly just stories from his childhood/youth in South Africa. I’m finding it completely fascinating. He has wonderful stories, and my god he has a wonderful accent. I’m so happy I can listen to him read it, particularly the accents he uses to show different characters and when he speaks one of the (many!! I think it’s like 8!!) languages he knows. I definitely recommend it.
I made couscous for the first time in forever, and it’s so tasty. For some reason I think I wasn’t a big fan the last time I had it, so I’ve been avoiding it for years. But I cooked it and popped it on top of this salad, and it’s made a few very delicious meal this week.
