Last weekend I got to celebrate one of my best friend’s graduation!! She graduated (with distinction, that genius!!) from Wake Forest University from their Physician Assistant master’s program. I was so happy to celebrate her and hang out with her family. She takes her boards next week which I know she will crush, and she’ll move to DC later this summer to start her new job. Yay Claire! She’s the best!
I finished Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup by John Carreyrou this week and WOW I loved it. I’ve been on the waiting list at the library for a million years, and once I got the book I devoured it. I’m totally fascinated by the Elizabeth Holmes story and will gladly take any opportunity to learn more about Theranos and the insanity that went on there. I need to finish the HBO documentary still and listen to the podcast, but I have heard that of all three (the biggest pieces of media about Theranos), Bad Blood is the best. I also had forgotten that Adam McKay is going to make a movie based on the book starring Jennifer Lawrence as Holmes. I think that will be incredible. A billion out of ten, recommend you read this one.
The trailer for the new Downton Abbey movie was released this week. If you could dream up a perfect movie for me, it might be Lady Mary getting the squad back together to host the King and Queen at her English country house — aka this movie is my dream. I stopped watching Downton after season 3 (Matthew + Mary 4ever!!!!!), but I will absolutely be going to see this film in September.
I am going to make a summer playlist on Spotify soon, so I was revisiting last summer’s and just falling in love with some of the songs all over again. One of them is R.A.D. Moves by Kady Rain. I don’t think I’ve heard another song by her (though I really need to try them out), but this song was recommended on a “Songs of the Summer” episode of NPR’s Pop Culture Happy Hour last year. It’s just joyful and fun and makes me want to dance! Listen to it here.
Out too much! Next week I’m really hoping to buckle down and make some food that I like (and/or is already in my freezer) in order to get my spending a little more under control.
The Game of Thrones series finale (SO SUE ME! I LIKED THIS SEASON!), Carolina baseball, Trader Joe’s cards, pink lipstick, red lipstick, horoscope apps, Hello Dolly, Jason Mantzoukas on The Watch, flamingo dish towels, thoughtful and generous parents.
