WE’VE CONQUERED ALL OF EUROPE! WE’RE NEVER GONNA STOP! Hey hi hello Liverpool Football Club are CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE, and I have potentially never been happier. I love this team and the community surrounding it so, so much. It’s been almost a week and I can’t stop watching (and crying over) clips from the game, trophy presentation, and victory parade in Liverpool. I just love them so so so much. Please enjoy a bevy of photos that are not mine but make me SO happy:
Every article I can get my hands on about this final. Here’s a beautiful one that talks a lot about the players and their families (particularly skipper Jordan Henderson’s dad, who has had cancer for a few years), and a lovely New Yorker piece about the weight of the victory and one fan’s (literal and emotional) journey to get there. I’m also still reading Bring the Noise: The Jürgen Klopp Story, and it’s making me even happier now!
Well I’ve rewatched the match about four times since it happened, and I keep watching video clips. I woke up on Sunday morning and just wept over the LFC Instagram story. My favorite videos in this moment (and I’m limiting myself to just three, so know that there are about a billion I’m leaving out) are the following:
1. Jordan Henderson weeping as he hugs his dad forever after winning the match — I’m literally crying again watching it now (here).
2. Jürgen Klopp singing “let’s talk about six baby” to celebrate our sixth CL title. And not stopping at just one line. He kept on singing with a big ol’ smile on his face (here)!!
3. Jürgen Klopp, backwards baseball cap on and drink by his side, counting to six on the back of the bus during the parade (here).
You’ll Never Walk Alone, on repeat, forever. Here’s the rendition after the Champions League victory.
Liverpool Football Club and truly nothing else.
